eAIMMs was developed to modernise and improve the traditional data capture and management process. The core of the application is underpinned by the SIMM (Structural Inspection and Maintenance Management) Guidelines, as pioneered by Anglo American in the early 2000s.

The challenge

The software facilitates the effective identification, logging, and management of legislated inspections for the mining sector and the subsequent lifecycle management of identified issues. Its purpose is to identify, mitigate against, and ultimately improve upon the impact of safety and operational incidents or loss.

In the intricate tapestry of modern civilisation, infrastructure stands as the bedrock upon which societies flourish and economies thrive. Infrastructure is the silent custodian of our well-being.

As the sands of time shift, much of this infrastructure, once heralded as a testament to human ingenuity, is showing signs of age, wear and tear. The challenges are manifold: the safety risks of crumbling bridges, the economic repercussions of faltering power grids, and the environmental toll of outdated facilities.

The solution

In recognising these challenges, we have crafted technology solutions that are at the forefront of ensuring that our infrastructure remains a pillar of strength for generations to come, all the while ensuring their safety.

Through innovation, commitment, and vision, they are not just maintaining, but elevating our shared foundation to new heights of sustainability, safety, and efficiency. eAIMMs was developed to modernise and improve the traditional data capture and management process.

Instead of manual logbooks and spreadsheets, eAIMMs is used by inspectors and engineers to digitally capture and submit issues in real-time and provide consolidated views and dashboards for organisations and their many operations. eAIMMs, or Electronic Asset Inspection and Maintenance Management System, is risk assessment and management software for determining and recording structural asset deterioration for large industries.

Traditionally, an inspection is conducted, recorded and reported manually which leads to an isolated view of each individual operation.

However, with eAIMMs this process is streamlined and vastly improved. By capturing issues just once, eAIMMs consolidates all the data into a comprehensive, holistic view of the entire site. This integrated perspective allows for a more efficient and effective approach to addressing the identified issues in alignment with the overall site's needs and priorities.

The core of the application is underpinned by the SIMM (Structural Inspection and Maintenance Management) Guidelines, as pioneered by Anglo American in the early 2000s. These SIMM Guidelines are well respected engineering standards and have been widely adopted throughout the industry to standardise and assess structural deterioration and prioritise maintenance according to a predetermined risk and priority schedule. eAIMMs is a complete solution and is currently deployed across 87 operations, 5 multinational organisations and 10 countries and is available in English, Spanish and Portuguese. eAIMMs offers powerful inspection and issue management solutions through the following:

Real-time inspections

Capture issues and prevent downtime via inspections performed in real-time and on-site with the eAIMMs mobile inspection app or later, via the desktop web application.

  • Works in real-time, on-site or offline.
  • Mobile and desktop.
  • 3D, geospatial or diagram-based operations, above or underground.

Turn operational data into knowledge

If your operation type can be represented by a map, diagram or 3D model, eAIMMs will be able to help you maximise the performance of your assets.

  • Plants: Geospatial representation through the use of satellite mapping.
  • Shafts: Technical diagrams and 3D model representation.
  • Ships: Technical drawings.
  • Heavy mobile equipment: Technical drawings of non-fixed plant equipment.

SIMM core

The SIMM (Structural Inspection and Maintenance Management) method combines two aspects of an asset or element:

Condition - based on highly specific material deterioration mechanisms, and Repair - priority based on the consequence of its structural failure.

This classification categorises various degrees of deterioration and their ‘structural’ importance, creating a matrix where the Risk Rating associated with issues can accurately be captured. There are 22 unique deterioration mechanisms across steel, concrete, fibreglass, asbestos, and timber material types.

Risk ratings range between 1 and 25 and divide issues into four categories: High, Significant, Moderate and Low.

With eAIMMs you get a full toolkit to manage your operation:

  • Task management: Schedule and assign repair tasks to approved contractors or employees and track progress on assets.
  • Reporting: Get a bird's eye view on how your operation is doing and generate health reports on any asset, at any time.
  • Integration: Integrate your existing ERP or take advantage of our comprehensive API to integrate eAIMMs directly into your current systems and processes.
  • Monitoring plans: Create monitoring plans on any asset and view their condition over time to mitigate business risk and downtime
  • AI deterioration detection: Seamless integration to automatically detect and rate images with corrosion or connection deterioration models - new models are being added.

eAIMMs addresses a need in the market to improve safety and risk management on large industrial sites and expedite the process in capturing, addressing and resolving these issues. In this way, eAIMMs is a solution to the challenge faced across the country’s mining sector to understand and improve processes to the level of global excellence.

Instead of merely reaching an international standard, eAIMMs raises the bar and sets the benchmark for best practices worldwide making it a truly transformative solution that positively influences safety, risk management, and operational efficiency.

Our easy-to-use software offers a seamless and cost-effective solution, requiring minimal implementation investment. Our ultimate goal for eAIMMs is to expand its presence in the market and promote the adoption of cohesive and standardised capture protocols across industries.

With experimental AI in place to identify and assess deterioration mechanisms, eAIMMs has begun the journey to replace the labour-intensive visual inspection process. With increased investment capital, we look forward to the opportunity to enable more sophisticated analysis.

If you would like to experience a demo of eAIMMs first hand, we would love to host you at our offices in Rosebank.

Structural failures or the loss of structural integrity of plant, equipment or infrastructure have long been recognised as one of the top ranked risks in the industry. In line with the Anglo-American safety vision to achieve Zero Harm, a Structural Inspection and Maintenance Management (SIMM) control system was developed to partner with all the Anglo-American operations to facilitate safety and productivity through effective structural maintenance.

A key success factor in the successful implementation of our requirements was the development of a unique web-based database software system, called eSIMMs by Platform45. This development has been ongoing for almost a decade now and this specific software is globally regarded as industry leading.
